Africa is capable of surprising even the most experienced traveler. A continent that offers many more contrasts than anyone can imagine. And, to prove it, we take you to amazing African landscapes. Some are well known, others not so much, but all will leave you speechless.
1. Dead Vlei, Namibia. One of the most incredible landscapes in Africa
An old lake surrounded by vegetation that ended up drying up. The dunes surrounded it and the intense sun petrified the trees, shaping one of the most surreal landscapes in Africa. These blackened trunks are almost a thousand years old and the contrast of the yellows and oranges of the soil and the dunes is spectacular.
2. Dallol, Ethiopia
We visit another of those corners that seem from another planet. In the Danakil desert we find the craters of the Dallol volcano. Some say it is hell on earth. And they have some reason, because of the high temperatures, because of the sulfur and sulfur formations and because of the lakes of waters loaded with dangerous acids that populate it.
3. White Desert, Egypt
Thousands of years ago the sea covered this area. The seabed was made of sandstone rock, which, when uncovered, began to be sculpted by the wind and rain. The result: one of the strangest landscapes in Africa. Curious white formations rise from the desert sands, turning orange and reddish at sunset, giving life to a beautiful natural spectacle.
4. Victoria Falls, Zambia and Zimbabwe
All the force of nature seems to be concentrated in these falls, discovered in 1855 by the famous doctor Livingstone. Imposing, with its kilometer and a half wide and more than one hundred meters high, not only the fall of the water impresses, but also the deafening noise that it causes.
5. Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Without a doubt, that of this volcano is one of the most recognizable images in Africa. It is the top of the continent and has three peaks, the highest reaching 5,600 meters in height. This is the reason that at the top you can see phenomena that do not conform to the typical image that is had of this continent, we speak of glaciers and perpetual snows.
6. Avenue of the Baobabs, Madagascar
Baobabs are unique, strange trees. Trees that can live up to a thousand years and that can reach 30 meters in height. Legend has it that their peculiar shape is due to the fact that they were very conceited trees, so much so that a god turned them over and put the roots upwards. Madagascar is one of the few places where you can still walk among these unique trees.
7. Tsingy de Bemaraha, Madagascar
Without leaving the island of Madagascar, we visited another forest just as surprising, but very different. The Tsingy de Bemaraha is a stony forest, where erosion has created curious shapes. 8. Erg Chebbi, Morocco
It is one of those landscapes of Africa capable of leaving you speechless. Erg Chebbi is a sea of dunes, but so spectacular that they reach 150 meters in height. A golden landscape that changes with the daylight, turning almost reddish at sunset, so that the dunes seem almost to burn. A place where silence reigns and where you can live an unforgettable sensory experience.
9. Simien Mountains, Ethiopia
A radically different image is the one offered by these mountains, so beautiful and of such natural wealth, which are a World Heritage Site. Endemic animal and plant species live here among peaks, deep valleys and precipices that form one of the most beautiful landscapes in Africa. When the mist hugs these mountains, it really seems like a corner of fantasy.
10. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
The Ngorongoro is one of the largest volcanic calderas on the planet. 600 meter high walls surround a 260 km² great depression that houses an incredible natural wealth.
