Some, with thousands of years behind them, have witnessed the historical evolution. Others fell into oblivion after a time of splendor. And there are more modern ones that aroused strong controversy. We take you to spectacular pyramids that will fascinate you.

They are thousands of years old and still hold a tremendous fascination among those who visit or wish to do so. Especially the Great Pyramid, a magnificent structure, the only one of the seven wonders of the world that has survived to this day. It is so incredible that we will only tell you that it is built with more than two million stone blocks and is almost 150 meters high.

Another of those spectacular pyramids that you have to visit and that is impressive, although its dimensions are much smaller than those of the Pyramid of Cheops. This one is only 24 meters high, but it is capable of magic. Yes, because on the days that coincide with the equinoxes, the light and shadows that are projected create a curious effect on the steps, giving the appearance of a snake that is descending. Magical, without a doubt.

3. Pyramid of the Sun of Teotihuacán

We do not move from Mexico to enjoy the Pyramid of the Sun, the largest building in this site and the second in all of Mesoamerica. It has a height of 65 meters and to reach the top it is necessary to ascend 365 steps. The pyramid is spectacular and the view from its top, much more.

4. Temple of the Inscriptions in Palenque

Another example of the wisdom of the architects of the Mayan culture. Palenque is a Mexican site that engulfed the jungle and was buried after being abandoned. Today a small part of it is known, it is believed that there are still hundreds of hidden structures, but of those that have come to light one of the most beautiful is this beautiful pyramidal temple with eight levels.

They are in the Nubian desert, north of Sudan. They are a set of pyramids of different sizes, although the highest is barely 30 meters high. Like those in Egypt, they were built near the Nile and served as funerary monuments for the elites, in this case, of the Kush civilization.

It could pass for a Mayan pyramid, but it is in Java, in Indonesia. That is what makes it so special, that it is unlike other Hindu or Buddhist temples so abundant in Asia. This pyramid belongs to the Candi Sukuh temple and is much more modest than the ones we have seen in Central America, but very beautiful.

And we return to Central America, in this case to the heart of the Guatemalan jungle. The archaeological site of Tikal is dominated by one of the highest pyramids in the Mayan kingdom with its 70 meters high. A pyramid built in the 8th century in what was one of the most important Mayan cities.

What is an Egyptian pyramid doing in Rome? It is not really Egyptian, although it was built in the 1st century following its model. It is the tomb of Gaius Cestius, a Roman magistrate.  It is 36 meters high and is clad in white marble. It is not one of the best known pyramids, but if you travel to the Eternal City, it is worth visiting.

It has such spectacular dimensions that it is hard to believe that this Indonesian temple is a pyramid. But from a bird’s eye view its pyramidal shape is perfectly appreciated, very staggered, yes. It is the largest Buddhist monument on the planet, it was built in the 8th century and has six square platforms topped by three other circular platforms.

We finish our tour to discover spectacular pyramids by looking at a very young woman. When this aluminum and glass structure was built in the late 1980s, not everyone liked it. Gone is the controversy of a pyramid that has a height of 20 meters and 673 panels of laminated glass. You may like it or not, but what is undeniable is that it is impressive.
