To get to know Lake Bohinj you can do various activities. For example, you can follow a 12-kilometer hiking trail. There are not many, but it can take about five hours to do them, since it is worth enjoying the landscape calmly.

Another option is to take a boat trip from Ribčev Laz on the east bank to Bohinj Zlatorog / Ukanc on the west bank. Or, if you prefer, it is possible to rent sailboats, canoes or kayaks to discover the surroundings on our own.

Summer weekends are when more people gather around the lake to enjoy everything that can be done there. Most are local inhabitants, as there are 24 villages in the Bohinj valleys.

On the other hand, there is a cable car that goes to Vogel Mountain. From the top you can enjoy wonderful views of Lake Bohinj. It is located near the Hotel Zlatorok, leaves every half hour and takes between six and seven minutes to reach your destination.

Four kilometers from Lake Bohinj is another well-known attraction: the 78-meter high Slavica waterfall. To access the observation deck from which to admire the waterfall, it is necessary to climb more than 500 steps! It will take about 20 minutes, but the climb is worth it.

Another ascent, but only for the most daring, is the one to the highest peak in the park and in Slovenia: the Triglav, 2,864 meters high. The starting point is precisely Lake Bohinj and it takes two to three days to reach the top. It all depends on the pace you take and the stops you make.

Lake Bohinj can be reached in different ways. By car, follow the A2 / E61 motorway until exit number 3, towards Lesce / Bled. From there we will be about 30 kilometers from our destination. You just have to read the signs that lead to Bled and then continue to Bohinjska Bistrica.

Another option is to go by train. The nearest railway station is Bohinjska Bistrica. It can be reached, for example, from Jesenice. However, once you get off you have to walk or take a taxi or bus to the lake. By not going direct, it is not the most recommended means of transport.

It is more advisable to take a bus in Ljubljana. They operate between six in the morning and ten at night. Of course, you have to make sure that the line is Bohinj Zlatorog / Ukanc. The journey is one hour and 45 minutes. If you start from Bled, whose lake also has no waste, it takes only half an hour.

Whichever means of transport you choose, you will find a place of spectacular natural beauty. In fact, for many, Lake Bohinj has nothing to envy to Lake Bled, which, as we said, is very close.
