8 chilling cliffs

If you suffer from vertigo you just have to remember that you are looking at photographs of the most chilling cliffs from a screen. You don’t have to go in person to make sure they exist! And,  if you love climbing or jumping, we recommend that you pay close attention at this point… You can organize your own ranking and choose the next one to experiment!

Cliffs for the brave

Do you have all the courage in the world? Aren’t you afraid of heights? Do you dare to climb completely vertical walls? !! Congratulations!! You must be one of those “crazy” who will love the following cliffs.

1. Vixía Herbeira, A Coruña (Spain)

Located in Cariño, next to Cabo Ortegal, and 613 meters high, it is one of the highest in Europe. To get to the place you will have to travel 84 kilometers from A Coruña.

If you are only going to look at it “from afar” you can go to the Garita de Herbeira viewpoint, which offers you beautiful views including Punta de Estaca de Bares and the Sisargas islands.

2. Preikestolen (Norway)

In its translation it means “the pulpit”, because it is a large rocky platform that extends into the abyss. The dimensions of the platform are 25 X 25 meters and it looks out over the Lyse Fjord. This cliff is located near the city of Stavanger… and has a free fall of 600 meters!

3. Peñón de Ifach, Alicante (Spain)

It is the highest cliff on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, at 332 meters. It is linked to the peninsula by a large isthmus and has a well-marked path to reach the top, from where you can see the islands of Formentera and Santa Paola.

To access this reserve and natural park, located 63 kilometers from Alicante, take the road from Calpe. For men in ancient times it was a magical mountain.

4. Kjerag Mountains (Norway)

Spaniards and Norwegians could shake hands due to the amount of cliffs on their land! In the case of the Kjerag Mountains, they are 1100 meters above sea level. Does it seem little to you? Due to the erosion that the rock has suffered, jumps can be made almost as high as the mountain itself. The most chilling without a doubt is one of… 1000 meters of free fall!

5. Cabo de Creus, Girona (Spain)

Next to the previous one it seems tiny, since it is only 68 meters high. However, it is a good place to start in the world of high jump. It is the easternmost cliff in the country, where the whole territory first dawns, in the middle of the Costa Brava.

It is part of a beautiful national park and in its surroundings you will find towns that seem out of a story like Cadaqués and Port de la Selva. It is located 80 kilometers from Girona.

6. La Quebrada, Acapulco (Mexico)

It would not be fair to make this list without leaving Europe. In American lands there are also very interesting cliffs. This is located in Guerrero, in the south of Mexico and is famous because there is a show jumping. The danger of the show lies in the fact that whoever jumps into the water has to calculate when the wave is highest, otherwise it would hit the rocks and die as a result of the blows.

7. West End Cliffs (Jamaica)

Although those who are dedicated to free fall jumps do not like this place very much because it is too touristy, it is worth noting it. It has three different platforms (the highest of 11 meters) and is surrounded by visitor services, including a cafeteria. It is a magical and perfect place to watch the sunset. It began as a village of settlers and today it attracts the attention of hundreds of visitors.

8. Rishikesh (India)

This town is known as “the yoga capital of the world”. Although it may seem that it is the most relaxed, it also has its activities for those who do not want to be in the lotus position all day. Jumping off its cliff takes you into the rough waters of the Ganges River, the largest in the country. This site is really for the brave. But not because of the heights but because the river is frozen and completely polluted, so much so that you can’t see the bottom.

Which of all these cliffs do you dare to climb? At least try to reach the top to admire the landscapes from several meters high!
