Peyto Lake is within Banff National Park , in the Canadian Rockies, in the state of Alberta. Of impressive beauty, it is a lake of glacial origin and is one of the Canadian lakes that every traveler would like to see.

It has an environment full of mountains and forests that contrast with the turquoise color of its waters. The lake can be seen from a viewpoint a few meters from the road, a view that will leave you speechless, but it is worth going down to the shore and appreciating its spectacular landscape.

2. Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is located in Banff National Park, in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, about 15 miles away from the town of Lake Louise. It is one of the most famous Canadian lakes because its beauty is such that its image was included in the 20 dollar bills.

It is a lake with azure blue waters, a color given by the rock dust that comes from the mountains in the middle of a beautiful pine forest and mountains of impressive beauty. Besides admiring the view, you can also kayak and hike.

3. Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake is the largest lake in Yoho National Park, its name comes from the color of its emerald green waters and it has one of the most interesting hiking areas in the region.

The lake can be crossed by canoe from where you can have magnificent views, you can also tour the alpine circuit that surrounds the lake, known as the Emerald circuit. There are 24 kilometers of ups and downs, a bit hard to cover in a single day, but with absolutely spectacular views.

This glacial lake is easily accessible from the Field “town” road, and if you fancy sleeping at the foot of the lake, there is a resort that has some cabins that seem simply idyllic.

4. Lake Louise

Lake Louise is located in Banff National Park, in the Canadian Rockies, about 5 kilometers from the town of the same name and the Trans-Canada Highway.

This is one of the most spectacular Canadian lakes due to the variety of its colors and the glacier that feeds its waters. On its shores there is a hotel with all the services arranged for the enjoyment of its visitors.

5. Shadow Lake

It is also located in Banff National Park, near the border between the states of Alberta and British Columbia. It is an incredible lake that is only accessed after 14 kilometers of walking on established circuits.

It is worth making an effort to admire the almost virgin nature that surrounds this beautiful lake. To complete the experience, spending the night camping will allow you to discover the immensity of this natural setting.

6. Lake O’Hara

Of the Canadian lakes Lake O’Hara is located in one of the most protected areas of the Canadian Rockies national parks, it is within the limits of Yoho National Park.

It is less known than its neighbor, Lake Louise, because despite being less than 10 kilometers from it, Lake O’Hara presents an unspoiled natural space to the delight of its visitors.

7. Maligne Lake

Maligne Lake is located in Jasper National Park and is one of the most popular Canadian lakes for hosting Spirit Island, one of the most famous places in Canada.

The views of this lake are impressive due to its large size, its depth, its vivid azure color  and its immaculate mountains. Among the activities that can be carried out are fishing trips, boat trips to admire the landscape, canoeing or descent in the rapids.

To see Spirit Island up close, the idyllic island featured in promotional photos of the Canadian Rockies, there are 90-minute cruises. It is best to spend 2 or 3 days visiting this beautiful lake to experience its impressive nature.
