The works began on September 21, 2004 thanks to the designs of the architect Adrian Smith. At first it was thought to build a tower of 570 meters. However, the design evolved both in appearance and height and became a 600-meter tower.

When the works began, he began to consider a greater height, with a new model that would exceed 700 meters. The anticipation for the final appearance of Burj Khalifa intrigued practically all the citizens of Dubai, since very few would know what the final height of the famous skyscraper would be.

During the following years there was speculation about its final height, with rumors and theories that it would exceed a thousand meters. Theories that were finally disproved when the works concluded on January 4, 2010. The building reached 828 meters.

Currently, the building can be visited every day from nine thirty in the morning to ten at night. The best time to go up is during sunset. The play of light from the sun recreates an ideal environment that you cannot miss.

At more than 800 meters high, the Burj Khalifa is three times taller than the Eiffel Tower and twice the height of the mythical Empire State Building in the United States. On a clear day this skyscraper can be seen from 95 kilometers away.

In addition, it has 57 elevators in operation, one of them is ultra-fast, since it reaches 36 km / h ascent speed. On the other hand, the building is covered by almost 29,000 glass panels, weighs no less than 500,000 tons and its construction used 1.5 billion dollars.

For the tallest tower in the world it was not enough to have a large viewpoint on the roof because its objective is to make us touch the sky. The Burj Khalifa has two viewpoints. One is on the 124th floor, 442 meters high. It is the first viewpoint that was enabled once the skyscraper was inaugurated on January 4, 2010.

However, on the 148th floor, at an altitude of 555 meters, there is a second viewpoint. It is the newest and the most famous, since it is currently the highest viewpoint in the world, as it has managed to surpass the Canton Tower, in China.

3. Its construction was inspired by a flower

The appearance of the Burj Khalifa was changing during the years prior to its construction. Its current appearance resembles a flower called Hymenocallis, very typical in Dubai for its ability to adapt to tropical climates.

Perhaps this flower was thought of because of the building’s ability to withstand adversity and remain the tallest on the planet. In addition, the flower in which it is inspired has very large petals, hence its shape.

4. It is surrounded by an artificial lake

As if that were not enough, with its imposing height and beauty, the Burj Khalifa is surrounded by an artificial lake of turquoise tones. There is the Dubai Fountain, another of the most prominent tourist places in the city. In the surrounding area, there are also upscale bars and restaurants and the famous Dubai Mall.

Since the Burj Khalifa entered the record books, there are many countries competing to build the tallest skyscraper in the world. We don’t know when they will get it, but for now, you can enjoy the sensation of touching the sky from this imposing skyscraper in Dubai.
