Construction began on this imposing construction in 1998. However, it was not officially opened until December 2001. It all started when billionaire Stanley Ho Hung-Sun was so impressed by Auckland’s Sky Tower that he commissioned a similar tower to build in the city of Macau.

Later,  the Macau Tower served as the setting for two Guinness records.  On the one hand, the highest bungee jump from a building, achieved by AJ Hackett. On the other, the one achieved by Edison Chen, who represented construction in the inaugural jump to compete for the highest bungee jumping facility in the world.

The tower’s fame has even transcended popular culture, as it has appeared in various movies and television shows. This is the case of  Jack Osbourne: Adenaline Junkie; Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations; America’s Next Top Model; An Idiot Abroad 3 ; or various episodes of Amazing Race.

And today, the Macao Tower, in addition to serving as a viewpoint and to take advantage of our leisure time, as we will see later, is used to broadcast radio and television signals.
