Redang Island, the best beach in Southeast Asia

It may seem a bit pretentious to say that Redang Island is the best beach in Southeast Asia. And it is that in this region of the world, without a doubt, beautiful beaches abound. So you may think that Redang Island is not the best, but it is clear that anyone who knows it will place this little piece of Malaysia on the podium of the most beautiful beaches they have ever seen.

How to get to Redang Island

There are two ways to travel to this little paradise off the east coast of Malaysia. On the one hand, it can be reached by taking advantage of the small island airport, which offers a few flights from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of the country, or even from Singapore.

However, the most common way to get to Redang Island is via ferries that depart from the two docks in Kuala Terengganu. From one of them the public ferry sets sail to this island, which is about 40 kilometers away. And from the other leave those that offer organized trips, which, of course, are more expensive.

But before reaching Redang Island

Since we have named you Kuala Terengganu, we recommend you visit this city. There are several interesting places waiting for you, such as the Sultan’s Palace, the Central Market or its Chinatown.

But among the whole, the most striking is the imposing Crystal Mosque that speaks to us on the one hand of the current economic power of the country and on the other of the importance of the Muslim religion.

Once you have left the city behind, prepare to enjoy Redang Island or Pulau Redang, as you will find it on the local signage. Here is that dream beach, which is washed by the South China Sea.

This beach is known as Tuluk Dalam, and certainly just to enjoy it, its white sands, its turquoise waters, its peace and its sunsets, it is worth a trip to Malaysia.

That beach is very long and has a public part. Another part is associated with the different category resorts that are scattered along the same seashore. A heavenly and unforgettable place.

The main activity on Redang Island

With what has been said so far, it can be assumed that the main activity during the stay in Redang Island is to enjoy its beach. One spends the day sunbathing, reading, taking a walk along the shore, entering the sea to cool off … And so on in a continuous cycle, which I hope would never end.

Other things to do in Redang Island

However, some may be looking for a little more action during the days on Redang Island. If so, any of the hotels where you stay will offer excursions to the Pulau Redang Marine Park. Hire it because it’s worth snorkeling in those waters teeming with millions of colorful fish that swim among corals and sea cucumbers.

And if you know little about snorkeling, there is also the possibility of doing scuba dives. Some dives that, depending on what time of year, allow you to spot large turtles and even sharks. In addition to the fact that the local guides will take you to the odd ship sunk during the Second World War.

Redang Island only has one main road, but around it there are some interesting trails to do a walk. Find out at your hotel and you can take a walk through areas where you will feel like true explorers.

And after that effort, go back to that dream beach. Sit back and watch the sunset  and see how the inhabitants of the island also stop to do so. Although they are used to such magic, they cannot resist the spell of what is perhaps the best beach in Southeast Asia.
