Ribera del Duero: the best wineries on its Golden Mile

The Ribera del Duero wines form one of the most renowned and quality designations of origin in Spain. But of the whole set of vineyards and wineries scattered throughout Castilla y León, the most famous wines in the area are produced in what is known as the Golden Mile of the Ribera del Duero.

The extension of the DO Ribera del Duero

In total, the territory that produces the wines with the Ribera del Duero denomination extends over more than 100 kilometers, following the basin of this river. An area that covers up to four provinces of Castilla y León. We are talking about the regions of Burgos, Soria, Valladolid and Segovia.

Well, the so-called Golden Mile of the Ribera del Duero unfolds through the Valladolid province. Specifically, the 15 kilometers between the towns of Tudela del Duero and Peñafiel. In the latter, you can also visit the Museum of the Denomination of Origin in the imposing medieval castle.

Anyway, in this region you can find the following wineries and it has endless activities related to wine tourism.

Vega Sicilia

The great symbol of this appellation of origin and the most prestigious winery in recent decades is Vega Sicilia. A name and a visit that simply becomes synonymous with distinction and quality.

Pingus Domain

El Dominio de Pingus, in Quintanilla de Onésimo, is a winery as small as it is exquisite. A visit in which not only good wines are tasted, but in which the love of the vineyard and artisan production are breathed.

Bodegas Aalto

The visit to Aalto, Bodegas y Viñedos perfectly reflects what makes the Ribera del Duero different from other denominations of origin. And it is that in this case, the fusion between modernity and tradition reaches heights of the highest elegance.

Emilio Moro Bodegas has made wine tourism his emblem. There you will not only see a beautiful winery that will introduce you to the process of making Ribera del Duero wines. Besides that, it has a range of very interesting activities, which they have called Sensory Experiences .

Hacienda Monastery

This winery is the result of the work of one of the maximum references of the Ribera del Duero, the Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck. You will find it between the towns of Pesquera and Valbuena del Duero.

Retuerta Abbey

The truth is that the location of this winery means that it cannot be legally included in the Denomination of Origin of Ribera del Duero. So it markets its products as “Wine from the Land of Castilla y León”, which does not prevent them from being exquisite.

Dehesa de los Canónigos

With this name, we can imagine that one of its strengths from the perspective of wine tourism is the landscape that surrounds the winery. Some vineyards in which highly entertaining and instructive walks are programmed.

Mauro

It is a case similar to that of the Abadía Retuerta winery. Even so, it is worth visiting this eighteenth- century house, which since the 1980s was transformed into the Bodegas Mauro headquarters.

Bodegas Arzuaga

If you are thinking of a vacation in Valladolid to get to know the Ribera del Duero wines in depth, here is an idea. Try staying at the Bodegas Arzuaga spa hotel.

This winery has one of the most spectacular vineyards in the entire area. A large estate in which innumerable hundred-year-old vines are kept that give it a special color, both to the landscape and to its wines.

Carraovejas payment

The Pago de Carraovejas winery, of course, produces great Ribera del Duero wines. But in addition, it creates some fantastic events at its headquarters. Top quality gastronomic and oenological events.

The Pesquera group has its flagship in the Ribera del Duero with a wonderful winery. But its wine tourism offer is much broader, with four restaurants, not only in the province of Valladolid, but also in those of Burgos, Zamora and Ciudad Real.

Bodegas y Viñedos Alión

Just by saying that Alión is a winery linked to the Vega Sicilia group, we must already get an idea that we are talking about wines of enormous quality. But in this case, the distinctive note is that tradition is added to a spirit charged with modernity.

Matarromera

The Matarromera Family Wineries are also present in other denominations of origin such as Ribeiro, Rioja, Rueda, Cigales and Toro. They offer us their rural hotel, a restaurant and a wine museum.

Legaris

We finish the list of the wineries of this peculiar golden mile with Legaris. Another place that is worth visiting as a tourist, and also if you want to do a tasting course and other training activities, which you can enjoy in small groups.

Now we can only toast with a glass of wine … from the Ribera del Duero, of course.
