The Kravice Falls: A Wonderful Hidden Treasure

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s recent past has kept tourists away from this territory for a long period of time. Fortunately, today you can enjoy the beauty of cities and the magnificence of their landscapes in complete freedom and safety. And one of  its greatest wonders, which few people know yet, are the spectacular Kravice Falls. 

The Kravice waterfalls : a natural beauty

The flow of the Kravice Falls, also called Kravica, falls from a height of 25 meters. The rocky surface from which its numerous waterfalls fall has a very particular physiognomy. And it is that they closely resemble a natural amphitheater shaped like the letter C.

Although they are much less mighty and lower in height, when it comes to beauty, their appearance has nothing to envy to much more famous streams of water, such as the Angel Falls or the Victoria Falls.

The most amazing bathroom

Bathing in the lagoon where these gigantic jets see their end is not only allowed, but is highly recommended, particularly in the summer time, when temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius.

Being sheltered by the dense trees, it is a delight to submerge in its waters. So much leafiness forms a practically compact roof that protects from the heat of the sun and refreshes the environment, making the dip much more pleasant.

Clear and refreshing waters

The waters of the Trezibat River are in charge of filling this extensive pool. Swimming in it is an unforgettable experience, since while splashing it  is possible to perceive the beautiful bluish hue that some areas reach.

But the most incredible thing is that, when moving through the lagoon, it is discovered that this bluish color becomes transparent, thus allowing us to observe the multitude of species of fish that inhabit this paradise.

It is impressive to contemplate from inside the lake the vines, moss and the rest of the plants that the water current has helped to conceive on the high and stony vertical walls. The falls thus give the impression of having become a green and elongated tapestry, a veritable vertical garden.

And the most daring, in addition to taking a bath, can still spend time looking for and enjoying the caves that are in this area and that complete an absolutely enchanting landscape.

Kravice Falls: far from the madding crowd

This wonderful corner is located just a few kilometers from the city of Ljubuski, with a location very close to Medjugore, the most popular pilgrimage point in the country. In this way, tourists of Bosnian or Croatian origin, of great spirituality and religious character, usually take advantage of the route in the direction of this sanctuary to get closer to contemplate the beauty of these waterfalls.

However,  the hotel offer in this area is not exactly abundant. Unless we plan to camp or reach the Croatian border and arrive in Montenegro, it is convenient to have made a reservation in advance in a nearby town.

A paradise devoid of signage

Currently, there is no bus line whose route stops at the falls, in fact, much less is there a public transport service in the vicinity. The closest towns are at a considerable distance and only have a single daily van as a link with the big cities.

The most common is to be accompanied by a professional guide on a hired tour in Ljubuski. If we set out to go on our own, once we find ourselves inside the park it is not easy to locate either, as it lacks clear signage. However, it is not necessary to worry, if we listen carefully we will be able to orient the position of the river with respect to us.

Be that as it may, the Kravice waterfalls is one of those places that is worth visiting. Places in which to enjoy the most beautiful and wildest nature.
